Prutz/Kaunertal

Prutz is a village in the Austrian Tyrol, located in the district of Landeck at the foot of the Inn valley and at the entrance to the Kaunertal. This side valley is known for its glacier, reached via the Kaunertaler Gletscherstraße, one of Austria's highest mountain roads, which allows glacier skiing for much of the year. The Gepatschspeicher, a large reservoir lake surrounded by peaks over 3,000 metres high, is another notable feature of the valley, popular for walking and taking in views of the surrounding massif. In winter, the region offers alpine and cross-country skiing, while summer brings hiking, mountain biking and rafting on the River Inn. Prutz itself often serves as a base for exploring the Kaunertal and neighbouring villages in western Tyrol, set within a typical alpine landscape of coniferous forest and mountain pasture. The alpine continental climate brings cold, snowy winters and mild summers, making outdoor activities possible throughout much of the year in this quiet corner of the Tyrolean Alps.
