Moléson-sur-Gruyères

Moléson-sur-Gruyères is a mountain village in the canton of Fribourg, lying at the foot of the Moléson summit, which rises to 2,002 metres. The village serves as a gateway to the Fribourg Prealps and sits close to the medieval town of Gruyères, well known for its château and surrounding cheese-making region. A cable car provides access to the summit of the Moléson, where an astronomical observatory is open to the public at certain times of the year, along with panoramic views that, on clear days, stretch as far as Lake Geneva and the Bernese Alps. The resort offers winter activities such as alpine skiing, snowboarding and sledging on slopes suited to families, as well as hiking trails and a via ferrata route during the summer months. The ski area remains modest in size compared with larger Alpine resorts, making it more suited to local and family-oriented tourism. The surrounding countryside is also known for its Gruyère AOP cheese production, with several alpine dairy farms visible from the village's higher points. The climate is typical of mid-mountain regions, with snowy winters and mild summers well suited to outdoor pursuits.
