Silvaplana-Surlej

Silvaplana-Surlej is a village in the Upper Engadine, in the canton of Graubünden, situated on the shore of Lake Silvaplana at an altitude of around 1,800 metres. The area is well known for its favourable wind conditions, making it a popular destination for windsurfing and kitesurfing during the summer months, largely due to a thermal wind pattern known as the Maloja wind. The village also serves as the starting point for the Corvatsch cable car, which rises to over 3,300 metres and provides access to ski slopes, a glacier, and panoramic views over the Engadine Alps and the Bernina range. In winter, Silvaplana-Surlej forms part of the ski area connected to nearby St Moritz, and also offers cross-country skiing trails along the valley floor. During summer, the region draws hikers and mountain bikers thanks to a network of trails winding through lakeside and alpine scenery. The village retains a traditional Engadine character, with stone and timber architecture typical of the region. The alpine climate brings mild summers and cold, snowy winters.
