Samedan

Samedan is a village in the Upper Engadine, in the canton of Graubünden, situated at around 1,700 metres above sea level at the confluence of the Inn and Flaz rivers. As the region's main town, it is known for its historic old quarter of traditional Engadine houses, featuring sgraffito façades and bay windows, along with a Reformed church whose tower overlooks the village. Samedan is also home to Engadin Airport, the highest airfield in Europe accessible to jet aircraft, mainly used for private aviation and gliding. The village serves as a popular starting point for summer walks into the surrounding valleys and Upper Engadine lakes, as well as for cross-country and alpine skiing in winter, thanks to its proximity to Celerina and St Moritz. Samedan's golf course, one of the oldest high-altitude courses in Switzerland, also draws visitors during the warmer months. The dry, sunny climate typical of the Upper Engadine adds to the region's reputation as a year-round mountain destination, combining unspoilt nature with well-preserved architectural heritage.
