Madulain

Madulain is a small village in Upper Engadine, in the canton of Graubünden, nestled in the Inn valley between Zuoz and S-chanf. It belongs to the association of the Most Beautiful Villages in Switzerland, a status linked to its well-preserved Engadine architecture: traditional houses decorated with sgraffito, characteristic façades and narrow lanes that give the village an authentic, tranquil character. Modest in size, it offers a peaceful setting away from the bustle of nearby resorts such as St Moritz or Pontresina, while remaining well placed for exploring the wider region. The natural surroundings of Upper Engadine, with pine forests, meadows and the Inn river close by, are well suited to hiking and cycling in summer, as well as cross-country and alpine skiing in winter thanks to nearby ski areas. The village's railway station provides easy connections to neighbouring towns via the Rhaetian Railway line. Madulain therefore serves as a quiet base for discovering Engadine, combining architectural heritage, unspoilt nature and mountain activities, all within a setting that has remained largely untouched by mass tourism.
