Celerina

Celerina, known as Schlarigna in Romansh, is a village in the Engadin valley, in the canton of Graubünden, located right next to St Moritz and its lake. Straddling the River Inn, it retains a historic centre with traditional Engadine houses featuring sgraffito decoration and painted façades. The village is notably known as the finishing point of the Olympia Bob Run St Moritz–Celerina, the world's oldest natural bobsleigh track, still in operation every winter. It is also home to the remains of the San Gian church tower, a former religious building overlooking the valley. In winter, Celerina serves as a gateway to the Corviglia ski area, reachable by cable car, as well as to extensive cross-country trails, with the route of the Engadin Ski Marathon passing through the area. In summer, the village makes a good base for hiking and golf, benefiting from the dry mountain climate typical of the Upper Engadine. Overall, it offers an authentic alpine setting, quieter than neighbouring St Moritz yet still close to the region's tourist facilities.
