Goldegg

Goldegg is a village in the state of Salzburg, located in the Pongau region on the shores of Lake Goldegg, at an altitude of around 800 metres. It is notable for its central square lined with Biedermeier-style houses and for its medieval castle, Schloss Goldegg, which now houses a regional museum dedicated to folk traditions and local history. Lake Goldegg, whose waters are relatively mild for the area in summer, is popular for swimming, fishing and lakeside walks. The village serves as a starting point for hikes into the surrounding mountains, particularly towards the Schwarzenberg, as well as for cycling and mountain biking during the warmer months. In winter, the region is known for cross-country skiing, while downhill ski resorts linked to the Ski amadé network can be found nearby in neighbouring valleys such as Grossarl and Dorfgastein. The setting is defined by unspoilt nature, with forests, meadows and mountains typical of the Salzburg Alps. Goldegg retains a rural, traditional character, set apart from larger tourist resorts, making it a peaceful base for holidays close to nature.
