Finkenberg

Finkenberg is a mountain village in the Zillertal valley, in the Austrian Tyrol, just a few kilometres from Mayrhofen. The village serves as a direct gateway to the Penken ski area, with the Penkenbahn cable car departing from Finkenberg itself, as well as to the Tux valley leading up to the Hintertux Glacier, one of the few ski areas in Austria open year-round. Surrounded by peaks often exceeding 2,500 metres, the setting offers varied winter slopes linked to the Zillertal 3000 ski network, alongside an extensive summer network of hiking trails and mountain bike routes. The Ziller river runs through the valley, lined with traditional farms and chalets typical of Tyrolean architecture. The village has a distinct alpine climate, with snowy winters ideal for winter sports and mild summers suited to outdoor pursuits. Local cuisine features Tyrolean specialities such as Kaiserschmarrn and Knödel, served in mountain inns. Finkenberg remains a peaceful base for exploring the Zillertal, combining unspoilt nature with well-developed tourist facilities.
