Mallnitz

Mallnitz is a village in Carinthia, Austria, set within the Hohe Tauern National Park, the largest protected area in the Alps. Recognised as a climatic health resort, it benefits from clean mountain air and an unspoilt alpine setting amid peaks, glaciers and steep-sided valleys. The village serves as a popular starting point for hikes into the Ankogel massif and for exploring the Groppenstein Gorge as well as the waterfalls of the Dösen Valley. Mallnitz is served by the Tauern railway line, with a car-shuttle train running through the Tauern Tunnel to Böckstein, making it a convenient link between Carinthia and the Salzburg region. In winter, the Ankogel ski area offers slopes suited to relaxed, family-friendly skiing, away from the bustle of larger resorts. In summer, visitors can enjoy waymarked trails, mountain lakes and a natural outdoor swimming pond. The overall atmosphere remains authentic and geared towards green tourism and recuperation, within an alpine environment that has largely avoided mass tourism.
