Ötz

Ötz is a village in the Austrian Tyrol, located at the entrance to the Ötztal valley, which takes its name from the village. Nestled among the mountains, it serves as a popular base for mountain holidays throughout the year. The Hochötz ski resort, reached by cable car from the village, offers slopes suited to families and winter sports enthusiasts, along with tobogganing and snowshoeing. In summer, the village acts as a starting point for numerous hikes into the surrounding mountains, with trails leading to alpine pastures and mountain huts. Nearby lies Piburgersee, a natural lake favoured for swimming and woodland walks during the warmer months. The village centre retains a traditional Tyrolean character, with old houses featuring the painted façades typical of the region. Ötz enjoys an alpine climate with snowy winters and mild summers, making outdoor activities possible all year round. Its position at the foot of the valley also makes it a convenient gateway to other Ötztal villages, such as Sölden further up the valley.
