Ehrwald

Ehrwald is a mountain village in the Austrian Tyrol, at the heart of the Zugspitzarena region, close to the German border. It lies at the foot of the Wetterstein massif and the Zugspitze, Germany's highest peak at 2,962 metres, reachable from the village via the Tiroler Zugspitzbahn cable car. The village serves as a base for alpine and cross-country skiing in winter, with a ski area linked to that of neighbouring Lermoos. In summer, the region draws visitors for walking and hiking, with trails leading to the Seebensee and Drachensee lakes, as well as mountain biking. Ehrwald enjoys a typical alpine climate, with snowy winters and mild summers well suited to outdoor pursuits. The village retains a traditional Tyrolean character, with timber chalets and architecture typical of the Loisach valley. Its position near the border makes it easy to visit Garmisch-Partenkirchen in Bavaria, just a short distance away. The area is also popular for paragliding and climbing, with the rocky Wetterstein massif providing a suitable setting for these activities.
