Umhausen

Umhausen is a municipality in Austrian Tyrol, located in the Ötztal valley between Innsbruck and the Ötztal glacier. It is known for the Stuibenfall waterfall, one of Tyrol's highest, reached via a well-maintained trail running alongside the water. The village is also home to Ötzi-Dorf, an open-air museum recreating a prehistoric settlement linked to the discovery of the Ötzi ice mummy in the nearby mountains. The locality serves as a popular base for summer hiking, with routes leading to the hamlet of Niederthai and the surrounding alpine pastures, as well as for skiing and winter activities thanks to its proximity to the resorts of the Ötztal valley. Traditional Tyrolean architecture, featuring houses with flower-decked balconies, characterises the village centre. The region has an alpine climate with snowy winters and mild summers, ideal for outdoor pursuits. Umhausen remains a moderately visited destination, offering an unspoilt natural setting at the heart of the Tyrolean Alps.
