Stein an der Enns

Stein an der Enns is a small municipality in Styria, Austria, located in the Enns valley close to the Gesäuse mountain range and the national park of the same name. This mountainous area, crossed by the River Enns, is popular for hiking, mountaineering and mountain biking in summer, as well as winter sports at nearby resorts. The village lies not far from Admont Abbey, renowned for its monastic library, one of the largest in the world, which draws many visitors passing through the region. The surrounding landscape, marked by limestone cliffs and dense forests, offers an unspoilt natural setting, ideal for peace and quiet and for observing local wildlife. The climate, typical of the eastern Alps, allows for outdoor activities throughout the year, with mild summers and snowy winters. Stein an der Enns therefore makes a convenient base for exploring the Gesäuse and the Enns valley, while remaining within reasonable reach of Styria's livelier towns such as Liezen or Graz.
