Tux

Tux is a mountain village in the Austrian Tyrol, located in the Tuxertal, a side valley of the Zillertal, within the district of Schwaz. The village is best known for its glacier, the Hintertux Glacier, which allows year-round skiing, a fairly rare feature in Austria. The hamlet of Hintertux, at the head of the valley, serves as the main gateway to this glacier ski area, popular in both winter and summer for skiing and snowboarding. Outside the main winter season, the region offers extensive hiking opportunities across mid- and high-altitude terrain, with typical Zillertal alpine scenery of pastures, peaks and coniferous forests. The climate is alpine, with long, snowy winters and cool summers, well suited to outdoor pursuits. Tux retains a rural, traditional character, providing a quiet setting for holidays centred on nature and mountain sports, whatever the season.
