Sankt Lambrecht

Sankt Lambrecht is a mountain village in the Murau district of Styria, sitting at around 1,030 metres above sea level, making it one of the highest settlements in Austria. Its historic core is dominated by the Benedictine Abbey of Sankt Lambrecht, founded in the 11th century, whose abbey church and monastic buildings reflect a long-standing religious tradition that continues to this day. The abbey also houses collections dedicated to sacred art and regional wildlife. The village is surrounded by the Grebenzen Nature Park, a mountain range well suited to hiking in summer and to alpine and cross-country skiing in winter, thanks to reliably good snow cover at this altitude. The surrounding forest, typical of the Styrian Alps, provides a peaceful, wooded setting favoured for nature-based stays. The wider Murau region, in which Sankt Lambrecht lies, is also known for its traditional brewing and unspoilt rural landscapes. The mountain climate, with pronounced winters and cool summers, strongly shapes local life and the seasonal activities on offer to visitors throughout the year.
