Kitzbühel

Kitzbühel is a town in the Austrian Tyrol, set between the Kitzbüheler Horn and Hahnenkamm mountain ranges. It is internationally renowned for the Streif, the downhill ski run that hosts the famous Hahnenkamm Race, a highlight of the Alpine Ski World Cup held every January. The old town, with its colourful façades, cobbled lanes and remnants of medieval fortifications, retains a distinctly Tyrolean character and is home to shops, restaurants and hotels. Nearby, Lake Schwarzsee provides a popular spot for swimming in summer, while the surrounding peaks offer an extensive ski area in winter, linked to several neighbouring villages. In the warmer months, the region draws hikers, mountain bikers and golfers, with a number of well-regarded courses in the area. Kitzbühel has a typical alpine climate, with cold, snowy winters and mild summers. The town remains one of the leading holiday destinations in the Austrian Alps, popular in both the winter and summer seasons, and serves as a convenient base for exploring the wider Tyrol region.
