Seefeld in Tirol

Seefeld in Tirol is a resort town set on a plateau in the Austrian Tyrol, at around 1,200 metres above sea level, between the Karwendel and Wetterstein mountain ranges. The town built an international reputation through cross-country skiing, having hosted the Nordic skiing and ski jumping events of the 1964 and 1976 Winter Olympics, as well as the 2019 Nordic World Ski Championships. Its largely pedestrianised centre brings together shops, hotels and the baroque Seekirchl church, a small building recognisable by its onion-domed tower. Nearby, Lake Wildsee provides a peaceful spot for walks. In winter, Seefeld boasts one of Europe's most extensive cross-country ski trail networks, complemented by cable cars such as the Rosshütte, which give access to the surrounding alpine ski areas. In summer, the region is popular for mountain hiking and mountain biking. The town remains a convenient base for exploring the Tyrol, with Innsbruck less than an hour away. The alpine climate brings snowy winters and mild summers, typical of this part of the Tyrol.
