Mayrhofen

Mayrhofen is an Austrian municipality in Tyrol, located in the Zillertal valley at the foot of the Zillertal Alps, close to the Italian border. Sitting at around 630 metres above sea level, this mountain resort is regarded as one of the leading destinations in the Zillertal for winter sports, with an extensive ski area that includes nearby access to the Hintertux glacier and links to peaks above 2,500 metres. The Harakiri, one of Austria's steepest ski runs, has helped cement its reputation among experienced skiers. In summer, the surrounding region becomes a hub for hiking and mountain biking, with routes leading into valleys such as the Zemmtal and Tuxertal. The village retains a traditional Tyrolean character, with timber chalets, guesthouses serving classic Austrian fare, and a lively après-ski scene centred around the main street. The narrow-gauge Zillertal railway connects several villages throughout the valley. Mayrhofen appeals to a broad range of visitors, from families to hikers and winter sports enthusiasts, set within an authentic and well-preserved alpine landscape suited to year-round tourism.
