Faaker See

Faaker See is a lake in Carinthia, southern Austria, located a few kilometres from Villach and close to the Italian and Slovenian borders. Framed by the Mittagskogel and Karawanken mountain ranges, the lake is known for its clear waters and relatively mild summer temperatures, making it popular for swimming, sailing, windsurfing and diving. A small island sits in the middle of the lake, reachable by boat. The surrounding villages, including Faak am See, Egg, Drobollach and Ledenitzen, offer straightforward tourist facilities such as campsites, boat hire and lakeside footpaths. The area also lends itself to hiking and cycling, with a network of trails connecting nearby settlements and leading towards the foothills of the Alps. Its proximity to Villach means visitors can easily combine a lakeside stay with a day trip into the town for culture or shopping. Given its position at the crossroads of Austria, Italy and Slovenia, Faaker See also serves as a convenient base for excursions into the Julian Alps or towards Tarvisio.
