Abertamy

Abertamy is a small town nestled in the Ore Mountains (Krušné hory), in the Karlovy Vary region of western Bohemia, close to the German border. This high-altitude locality, shaped by a mining past linked to tin and later uranium extraction during the 20th century, retains an authentic mountain character. The climate here is cool, with snowy winters ideal for winter sports, as the region is well known for cross-country skiing and marked trails through coniferous forests. Nearby lie Boží Dar, the highest town in the Czech Republic, and Jáchymov, famous for its radioactive thermal springs and its history connected to radium extraction. The spa town of Karlovy Vary, with its baths and Belle Époque architecture, is also within easy reach by car. The surrounding area offers a well-preserved natural setting, popular for hiking in summer and outdoor activities throughout the year. Abertamy therefore makes a peaceful base for exploring this lesser-known yet genuine part of Bohemia, where industrial heritage meets the unspoilt nature of the Ore Mountains.
