Liberec

Liberec is a city in northern Bohemia, in the Czech Republic, nestled at the foot of the Jizera Mountains and the Ještěd ridge. It is particularly known for the Ještěd Tower, a striking futuristic structure combining a television transmitter and a hotel, reachable by cable car and offering panoramic views over the surrounding mountains. The city is also home to a well-regarded zoo, one of the oldest in the Czech Republic, as well as a botanical garden. The historic centre retains architecture shaped by German and Austrian influences, with a main square lined with colourful buildings and a neo-Renaissance town hall. Liberec is a popular starting point for hiking and skiing in the Giant Mountains and Jizera Mountains, thanks to a well-developed network of trails and slopes. The region enjoys a continental climate with cold, snowy winters ideal for winter sports, and mild summers suited to outdoor activities. The city also serves as a convenient base for exploring the nearby borders with Poland and Germany.
