Jelemek

Jelemek is a small village in the South Bohemian Region of the Czech Republic, close to the Šumava mountain range. This rural area is characterised by rolling hills, dense forests and unspoilt countryside typical of the Šumava foothills. The village offers a peaceful setting, well suited to nature-based stays away from urban bustle. The surrounding region is popular for hiking and cycling in summer, as well as cross-country skiing and snowshoeing in winter, thanks to reliable snowfall in the nearby mountains. Nature lovers can explore numerous marked trails winding through woodland and meadows, while neighbouring villages retain traditional South Bohemian architecture, featuring timber-framed houses and rustic squares. The nearby town of Prachatice, the district's administrative centre, is easily accessible and boasts a historic centre with colourful burgher houses. Jelemek therefore serves as a quiet base for exploring the Šumava, with its glacial lakes, protected peat bogs and rich forest biodiversity, offering visitors an authentic and largely untouristy experience of rural Bohemia.
