Straz nad Nezarkou

Stráž nad Nežárkou is a small town in South Bohemia, Czech Republic, located in the Jindřichův Hradec district within the South Bohemian Region. Set on the banks of the Nežárka river, it lies close to the Třeboňsko protected landscape area, renowned for its historic network of medieval fishponds that have supported carp farming for centuries. The town is dominated by a neo-Gothic chateau, remodelled in the 19th century, which remains its principal heritage landmark. The surrounding countryside, characterised by forests, wetlands and numerous ponds, is well suited to walking, cycling and birdwatching. The region enjoys a temperate continental climate, with mild summers and cool winters. Stráž nad Nežárkou is within easy reach of the historic towns of Jindřichův Hradec and Třeboň, the latter well known for its spa tradition and Renaissance architecture. As such, the town serves as a quiet base from which to explore the natural and architectural heritage of South Bohemia, away from the busier tourist centres of the region.
