Fuseta

Fuseta is a small fishing village on the Algarve coast, within the municipality of Olhão, bordering the Ria Formosa Natural Park. This protected lagoon system of channels, islets and sandbanks strongly shapes the character of the area, drawing birdwatchers and those keen on boat trips along the waterways. From Fuseta's modest harbour, regular ferries run to Fuseta Island and Armona Island, two sandbank islets with quiet, uncrowded beaches, offering a calmer alternative to busier resorts such as Tavira or Faro. The village centre retains an authentic feel, with whitewashed houses, quiet lanes and a local fish market reflecting an economy still tied to traditional fishing. Local cuisine centres on seafood, particularly shellfish and grilled fish typical of the region. The Mediterranean climate, with hot, dry summers and mild winters, makes it a pleasant destination throughout much of the year. Fuseta serves as a peaceful base for exploring the eastern Algarve, combining unspoilt nature, island beaches and the charm of nearby fishing villages.
