Koszalin

Koszalin is a city in West Pomerania, northern Poland, located around ten kilometres from the Baltic coast. Its proximity to the sea, particularly the seaside resort of Mielno linked by a cycle path, makes it a convenient base for combining a city stay with beach days during the summer months. The town centre, rebuilt after wartime destruction, retains St Mary's Cathedral, a Gothic brick building dating from the 14th century and the main remaining trace of the city's earlier history, when it was known by its German name, Köslin. Nearby, the wooded hill of Góra Chełmska provides a pleasant area for walks, with an observation tower offering views towards the coast on clear days. Koszalin is also a university town, with a noticeable student presence linked to its higher education institutions. The climate is temperate oceanic, with mild summers and cool, damp winters typical of Poland's Baltic coastline.
