Darlowo

Darłowo is a port town in north-western Poland, in the West Pomerania region, situated at the mouth of the Wieprza River on the Baltic coast. Its historic centre features the Castle of the Dukes of Pomerania, reputedly the birthplace of Eric of Pomerania, king of Denmark, Norway and Sweden in the 15th century. The town extends towards the coast into the seaside resort of Darłówko, split into two banks by a canal crossed by a swing bridge, a distinctive feature tied to the area's ongoing fishing and port activity. Sandy beaches backed by dunes and pine woodland draw visitors during the summer months, while the harbour still welcomes fishing boats and yachts. Local food specialities include smoked fish and herring, often sold directly along the quaysides. The climate follows the typical Polish Baltic pattern, with mild summers and cool, breezy winters. Darłowo therefore offers a blend of medieval heritage, working port life and modest seaside tourism, valued for its unspoilt natural surroundings and the genuine atmosphere of a small Polish coastal town.
