Warsaw, the capital of Poland, is defined by its history of reconstruction following the widespread destruction of the Second World War. The Old Town (Stare Miasto), a UNESCO World Heritage Site, was meticulously rebuilt to resemble its pre-war appearance and includes the Royal Castle and the Market Square with its colourful façades. The Palace of Culture and Science, built in the 1950s, dominates the city centre and offers panoramic views. The Warsaw Rising Museum documents a significant chapter of Polish history. The city is bisected by the Vistula River, around which green spaces have developed, notably Łazienki Park, associated with the composer Frédéric Chopin, who also has a dedicated museum in the city. The Praga district, on the eastern bank, retains a more working-class, industrial character, contrasting with the modern city centre. Local cuisine features specialities such as pierogi and żurek soup. Warsaw thus combines historical heritage, contemporary architecture and an active cultural scene, characteristic of a constantly evolving Central European capital.
