Wallgau

Wallgau is a village in Upper Bavaria, located in the district of Garmisch-Partenkirchen, in the heart of the Isar valley and at the foot of the Karwendel mountain range. The village is known for its traditional Bavarian architecture, with painted house façades, set within a well-preserved natural landscape of forests, meadows and mountains. Nearby are the mountain lakes of Barmsee and Ferchensee, popular for swimming and walking, as well as the Isar river which flows through the region. Wallgau serves as a good base for hiking in summer and cross-country skiing or snowshoeing in winter, thanks to a network of trails linking it to the neighbouring villages of Krün and Mittenwald. The alpine climate, with snowy winters and mild summers, supports outdoor activities throughout the year. The village remains quiet and largely unspoilt by mass tourism, making it well suited to nature-focused, peaceful stays, while still being close to the Austrian border and the wider attractions of the Garmisch-Partenkirchen area.
