Sachrang

Sachrang is a small mountain village belonging to the municipality of Aschau im Chiemgau, in Bavaria, close to the Austrian border and Tyrol. Set in a valley within the Chiemgau Alps, it is characterised by traditional Bavarian architecture, timber-framed houses and a parish church with its distinctive onion-domed tower. The village serves as a popular starting point for summer hiking, particularly towards the Geigelstein, a well-known local peak, as well as into the surrounding valleys such as the Sachranger Törl. In winter, the nearby alpine terrain lends itself to cross-country skiing and snowshoeing, offering a peaceful setting away from larger, busier ski resorts. The wider Chiemgau region, of which Sachrang forms part, is also recognised for its dairy farming and traditional cheese-making, as well as its proximity to Lake Chiemsee, roughly twenty kilometres away. With its mix of forests, alpine pastures and rocky peaks, the area appeals to those seeking nature and quiet surroundings, offering an authentic slice of rural Bavaria untouched by mass tourism.
