Nesselwang

Nesselwang is a town in Bavaria, in the Allgäu region within the Ostallgäu district, close to the Austrian border. Recognised as a Kneipp health resort, it lies at the foot of the Alpspitze mountain, reached via the Alpspitzbahn cable car, which provides direct access to hiking trails in summer and to a ski area, the Skizirkus Nesselwang, in winter. The town is also known for its traditional horn sledge race, the Hornschlittenrennen, held annually and drawing participants in a lively, community atmosphere. The surrounding mountain scenery, with alpine meadows and forests, supports outdoor pursuits such as walking, mountain biking, and both downhill and cross-country skiing depending on the season. This modest-sized town offers a quiet, typically Allgäu character, with traditional houses and open views towards the Alps. Its central location makes it easy to reach other tourist towns in the region, such as Pfronten or Füssen, the latter being close to Bavaria's famous royal castles. Nesselwang therefore serves as a practical base for exploring the alpine landscapes of the Allgäu throughout the year.
