Edertal

Edertal is a municipality in northern Hesse, within the Waldeck-Frankenberg district, situated along the River Eder. Made up of several typical rural villages, it lies close to the Edersee reservoir, one of Germany's largest artificial lakes, notable for its dam, which was famously breached in 1943 during the RAF's Dam Busters raid (Operation Chastise). The area serves as a convenient base for exploring the Kellerwald-Edersee National Park, home to ancient beech forests recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Numerous walking trails wind through the surrounding countryside, alongside the Eder cycle route, which follows the valley for many kilometres. Nearby towns add further interest, including Fritzlar with its well-preserved half-timbered old town, and the spa town of Bad Wildungen. The climate is temperate, with mild summers well suited to outdoor pursuits and cool winters.
