Zudar

Zudar is a small municipality at the southern tip of the island of Rügen, in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, connected to the rest of the island by a narrow strip of land. The Zudar peninsula extends into the Greifswalder Bodden, a shallow Baltic Sea lagoon, offering quiet landscapes of meadows, reed beds and natural shoreline. At its southern point, the Palmer Ort nature reserve is popular with birdwatchers, particularly for spotting migratory birds and cranes. The area is characterised by an unspoilt rural setting, with farming villages, a few campsites and opportunities for swimming along the lagoon. Zudar makes a pleasant base for coastal cycling routes and day trips to Stralsund or the nearby town of Garz, which has a castle. The climate is typical of the Baltic coast, with mild, breezy summers and cool winters. The destination suits travellers seeking peace, nature and uncrowded coastal scenery, well away from the busier tourist areas in northern Rügen.
