Truro

Truro, the county town of Cornwall (postcode TR1), is a compact city best known for its Gothic Revival cathedral with its three distinctive spires, completed in the early twentieth century and dominating the town centre. The historic core retains well-preserved Georgian architecture, particularly along Lemon Street and Boscawen Street, lined with shops, pubs and markets that make Truro the main shopping hub for Cornwall. The city sits at the confluence of the Kenwyn and Allen rivers, which form the Truro River, navigable down to the Fal estuary and giving access to the sea and small harbours such as Malpas. The Royal Cornwall Museum offers insight into the region's history, including its mining heritage. Truro serves as a convenient base for exploring the beaches of south Cornwall, coastal villages such as Falmouth and St Mawes, and the rural estates and gardens typical of the area.
