Woldegk

Woldegk is a small town in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, located within the Mecklenburg Lake District (Mecklenburgische Seenplatte). It is known as the 'windmill town' thanks to the Mühlenberg, a hill where several historic windmills, including traditional wooden post mills, have been preserved and are open to visitors. A windmill museum documents the local history of this traditional craft. The town is also noted for its distinctive microclimate, earning it the nickname 'Wetterwinkel' (weather corner), owing to some of the most extreme temperature swings recorded in Germany. The historic centre retains remnants of the medieval town wall along with St Mary's Church. The surrounding countryside, typical of the Mecklenburg Lake District, offers opportunities for walking and cycling through fields, woodland and lakeside scenery. Woldegk therefore makes for a quiet base from which to explore the rural and natural heritage of this north-eastern corner of Germany, away from the more heavily touristed routes.
