Wesenberg

Wesenberg is a small town in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, set within the Mecklenburg Lake District, not far from Neustrelitz. Located on the shores of Lake Woblitzsee, it serves as a convenient gateway to the extensive network of lakes and canals that defines this part of north-eastern Germany. The ruins of its old castle (Burgruine Wesenberg) reflect the town's medieval origins, when it was once fortified. Wesenberg draws visitors keen on nature and watersports, with canoeing, sailing, boat hire and fishing all well established thanks to a small marina. The surrounding countryside offers plenty of walking and cycling routes through forests, reed beds and wetlands typical of the region. The climate is temperate continental, with mild summers well suited to outdoor pursuits and cooler winters. The town makes for a quiet yet practical base for exploring the surrounding nature park, away from the busier tourist resorts found around Germany's larger lakes.
