Fürstenwalde

Fürstenwalde/Spree is a town in Brandenburg, located in the Oder-Spree district, roughly 50 kilometres east of Berlin. Set along the River Spree, the town owes much of its historical development to this waterway, which supported trade and craftsmanship since the Middle Ages. The town centre retains traces of this past, particularly around St Mary's Cathedral (Dom St. Marien), a Gothic brick structure typical of northern German religious architecture. The surrounding area features extensive natural landscapes, including pine forests and lakeland scenery characteristic of Brandenburg, well suited to walking and cycling. Its proximity to Berlin makes it a convenient base for exploring the German capital while enjoying a quieter, greener setting. The climate is temperate continental, with mild summers and cool winters.
