Mevagissey

Mevagissey is a fishing village on the south coast of Cornwall, within the St Austell district (postcode PL26). Its historic harbour, protected by two piers, still shelters a small working fishing fleet and gives the village its authentic charm. Narrow streets lined with colourful cottages, art galleries and shops selling freshly caught fish reflect the area's long-standing pilchard fishing heritage, once central to the local economy. The South West Coast Path runs through the region, offering views over cliffs and nearby coves such as Portmellon and Gorran Haven. Close by, the renowned Lost Gardens of Heligan, restored Victorian gardens, are a must-see, along with the Eden Project a short drive away. A small aquarium showcases local marine life, and in summer, boat trips sometimes link Mevagissey to Fowey across the bay. The village retains a peaceful, traditional atmosphere, well suited to holidays centred on nature, fishing traditions and Cornwall's maritime heritage.
