Wurzen

Wurzen is a small town in Saxony, located on the banks of the Mulde river, around fifteen kilometres east of Leipzig. Its historic centre retains a distinctly medieval character, featuring St Mary's Cathedral, one of the oldest religious monuments in the region, and the former bishops' castle, which reflects the town's past as a residence of the Bishops of Meissen. Wurzen is also known as the birthplace of Expressionist painter Otto Dix, whose legacy is commemorated in several local cultural venues. The banks of the Mulde offer pleasant opportunities for walking and cycling, with the area crossed by cycle routes linking Leipzig to other Saxon towns.
