Canterbury

Canterbury is a historic city in Kent, south-east England, best known for its UNESCO World Heritage cathedral, the seat of the Church of England and a major pilgrimage site since medieval times. The largely pedestrianised city centre retains a medieval character, with cobbled streets, timber-framed buildings and remnants of Roman and medieval city walls. The River Stour runs through the city, offering punting trips along picturesque stretches. Canterbury is also home to the University of Kent and Canterbury Christ Church University, giving it a lively student atmosphere throughout the year. Independent shops, cafés and markets cluster around the High Street and surrounding lanes. The city serves as a convenient base for exploring the Kent coastline, with seaside towns such as Whitstable and Broadstairs nearby, as well as the surrounding countryside, ideal for walking. The climate is temperate maritime, with mild summers and relatively gentle winters.
