Brouwershaven

Brouwershaven is a small historic harbour town in the Schouwen-Duiveland region of Zeeland, in the Netherlands, situated on the shores of Lake Grevelingen. Once a Hanseatic trading town granted city rights in the Middle Ages, it retains a charming centre featuring the Grote Kerk (Sint-Nicolaaskerk), notable for its unfinished tower, along with a historic town hall. The town is the birthplace of composer Jacob Obrecht, commemorated with a statue in the centre. Its sheltered marina draws sailors exploring Lake Grevelingen, a saltwater lake formed after the closure of the Brouwersdam as part of the Delta Works. The lake's clear waters have made it one of Europe's renowned diving spots, rich in marine life. Nearby, the Brouwersdam offers long beaches facing the North Sea, popular for surfing and kitesurfing. The surrounding Zeeland countryside, with its polders and coastal scenery, is well suited to cycling, offering a quiet, authentic setting away from heavy tourist crowds.
