Breskens

Breskens is a coastal village in the Dutch province of Zeeland, part of the municipality of Sluis in the Zeeuws-Vlaanderen region. Located on the southern bank of the Westerschelde estuary, it is connected to Vlissingen by a passenger and cyclist ferry service. The village has a sizeable marina, popular with sailors navigating the North Sea and the Scheldt estuary, along with a fishing harbour traditionally known for shrimp and sole. Breskens is also recognised as a popular diving spot, thanks to the relatively clear estuary waters that attract both Dutch and Belgian divers. Its North Sea beach, backed by dunes, stretches towards the nearby resorts of Cadzand-Bad and Nieuwvliet-Bad, both suited to walking and swimming. A network of dykes and cycle paths makes it easy to explore the surrounding Zeeland countryside and reach the Belgian border, with Bruges around twenty kilometres away. The climate is mild and maritime, with cool summers and the brisk winds typical of the North Sea coastline.
