Taivassalo

Taivassalo is a small rural municipality in southwest Finland, within the Southwest Finland region, set at the heart of the Finnish archipelago. The village is known for its medieval stone church, one of the oldest in Finland, dedicated to St Peter and St Paul, reflecting the long history of settlement along this stretch of coast. The area is notable for its fertile farmland, traditionally used for vegetable and fruit growing, a long-standing local industry. The landscape combines cultivated fields, sea inlets and small islands linked by coastal roads, characteristic of the Baltic Sea archipelago. Taivassalo lies along the Archipelago Trail (Saariston rengastie), a popular route for cycling and driving along the shoreline, offering views over the sea and fishing villages. The region is also well suited to sailing, fishing and countryside walks. Thanks to the moderating influence of the sea, summers here are mild and bright, while winters bring snow and long dark spells typical of southern Finland.
