Tammela

Tammela is a rural municipality in the Kanta-Häme region of southern Finland, roughly 100 km north of Helsinki. The area is characterised by numerous lakes, forests and peatlands, including Torronsuo National Park, one of the largest bogs in southern Finland, known for its boardwalk trails and birdwatching opportunities. Part of Liesjärvi National Park, with its old-growth forests and the Korteniemi crofter's museum, also lies within the municipality. The village of Tammela is home to a medieval stone church dating back to the 15th century, one of the oldest in Finland. Lake Pyhäjärvi and its surroundings offer swimming, fishing and boating during the summer months. The wider region has many holiday cottages, reflecting the traditional Finnish summer lifestyle. The local economy remains tied to agriculture and forestry. Winters are cold and snowy, ideal for cross-country skiing, while the short but bright summers encourage outdoor activities.
