Taivalkoski

Taivalkoski is a small municipality in the North Ostrobothnia region of Finland, set within an area largely covered by boreal forests, lakes and rivers. Its name refers to the rapids running through the locality, a distinctive feature of the landscape in this part of the country. The surrounding region lends itself to year-round outdoor activities, including hiking and fishing in summer, and cross-country skiing, snowmobiling and snowshoeing in winter. The long winter nights create favourable conditions for spotting the Northern Lights, while summer brings very long daylight hours, close to the midnight sun depending on latitude. The setting remains largely unspoilt, typical of the landscapes found in southern Lapland and the neighbouring Kainuu area. Taivalkoski serves as a good base for exploring the surrounding wilderness, away from urban bustle, in a quiet environment suited to nature-focused stays centred on peace and Nordic scenery.
