Olhava

Olhava is a small coastal village in the municipality of Ii, in North Ostrobothnia, on the shore of the Gulf of Bothnia and close to the city of Oulu. Crossed by a main road linking southern Finland to the north, this rural hamlet is characterised by extensive boreal forests, farmland and direct access to the sea, making it more of a quiet waypoint than a major tourist destination. The climate is typically Nordic, with long, cold and snowy winters well suited to cross-country skiing, snowmobiling and ice fishing, and short but bright summers offering long daylight hours ideal for outdoor pursuits such as walking, cycling and nature watching. The nearby Iijoki river and coastline also allow for fishing and water sports. The area remains sparsely populated, with a way of life centred on farming, forestry and an unspoilt natural setting. Olhava therefore offers a low-key base from which to experience authentic Finnish countryside, just a short distance from the urban amenities of Oulu.
