Tervola

Tervola is a small rural municipality in Finnish Lapland, set along the Kemi River (Kemijoki), one of the country's longest waterways. The landscape is dominated by extensive boreal forests, farmland along the river valley, and numerous lakes typical of southern Lapland. The area has traditionally relied on forestry and agriculture, particularly dairy farming, which still shape the character of the village today. Tervola lies close to the Arctic Circle, allowing for bright summer nights and views of the northern lights during the long winter darkness. The subarctic climate brings cold, snowy winters ideal for cross-country skiing, snowmobiling and ice fishing, while the short but light-filled summers are well suited to river fishing, hiking and picking wild berries. The Kemi River serves as an important focus for water-based activities and salmon fishing. Rovaniemi, the regional capital of Lapland, is within reasonable reach, making Tervola a quiet base from which to explore the Lapland wilderness away from the busier tourist routes.
