Pello

Pello is a small municipality in Finnish Lapland, situated on the banks of the Tornio River (Tornionjoki), which forms the natural border with Sweden at this point. This riverside setting gives the area a strong identity linked to fishing, particularly salmon fishing, a traditional activity enjoyed by visitors during the summer months. The surrounding landscape is characterised by vast forested areas typical of Lapland, ideal for hiking, wildlife spotting and outdoor pursuits. As in much of northern Finland, the climate here is subarctic: winters are long, cold and snowy, providing excellent conditions for cross-country skiing, snowmobiling and Northern Lights viewing, while the short summers benefit from the midnight sun. Its proximity to Sweden also allows for easy cross-border excursions into the neighbouring Norrbotten region.
