Kinnula

Kinnula is a small rural municipality in the Central Finland region (Keski-Suomi), located on the Suomenselkä ridge, the watershed that separates rivers flowing towards the Gulf of Bothnia from those draining towards Lake Ladoga. The landscape is dominated by extensive coniferous forests, peatlands and numerous lakes, typical of Finland's interior. The local economy has traditionally relied on forestry, farming and livestock, activities that still shape much of community life here. Sparsely populated, Kinnula offers a peaceful, unspoilt setting valued more for its surrounding nature than for any urban attractions. Winters are long, cold and snowy, ideal for cross-country skiing, snowmobiling and ice fishing, while summer brings opportunities for hiking, berry and mushroom picking, as well as canoeing and fishing on the nearby lakes. The area mainly appeals to those seeking nature, quiet and an authentic taste of rural Finnish life, well away from the more touristy parts of the country.
