Sotkamo

Sotkamo is a locality in the Kainuu region of eastern Finland, set on the shores of Lake Nuasjärvi. It is best known for the Vuokatti resort, built around the hill of the same name, which ranks among Finland's leading winter sports centres, offering alpine and cross-country skiing, ski jumping hills and biathlon facilities used by elite athletes. The rock-cut Vuokatti ski tunnel allows year-round training regardless of season. In summer, the area offers golf courses, hiking trails and activities centred on its many surrounding lakes. The climate is continental, with long, snowy winters ideal for winter sports and short but bright summers, when the region benefits from long daylight hours. Sotkamo remains very much a nature- and sport-oriented destination, valued for its tranquillity and the forested landscapes typical of Kainuu. Its proximity to Kajaani makes the area easily accessible for visitors travelling further afield.
