Hyrynsalmi

Hyrynsalmi is a small municipality in the Kainuu region of eastern Finland, close to the edge of the subarctic zone. The surrounding landscape is dominated by coniferous forests, lakes and low hills, typical of this sparsely populated part of the country. The Ukkohalla resort, with its downhill ski slopes and cross-country trails, draws winter sports enthusiasts thanks to reliable snow cover from November to April. The Paljakka nature reserve, noted for its preserved old-growth spruce forest, offers hiking routes popular in both summer and winter. The Kylmäluoma recreation area, featuring rapids and canoeing routes, is another notable spot for outdoor activities.
